A map from 1878 showing the original Siloh (Welsh Independent) (Seats for 130) and also the Parish Hall identified then simply as Church (Seats for 150). The "Rock Cottage" is shown in the middle lower just above the Quarry. Submitted by Mr David Langford.
This picture of the original Siloh Chapel on Dan-y-Graig Road before the road was properly completed. It was taken sometime between 1904, when the Parish Hall was built, and 1911 when the present Siloh Fach was erected. In order to do so it seems that not only was the original Chapel demolished but also one of the terraced houses in order to make space for the present foot print of Siloh Fach. Not only can you see the industry in the Melyn at the time but also if you look carefully you can just make out the railway track from Eaglesbush Colliery up in the Melyn Woods banking around to the left above the roofs of the terraced houses to the left of the chapel. This line continued on down the "line way” which was in the lane behind the houses on Old Road, crossing School Hill and continuing in the lane behind Walters Road before curving around to cross Walters Road and I think go under the Main Road to join with the GWR mainline.
